One of my best friends sowed the book into my life. I thank God he did. A Tale of Three Kings is the story of just that, three kings (Saul, David and Absalom) Each of these characters “spiritual temperaments” are brought to the surface and with it the questions, “Are you a spear thrower” and “Are you a Saul or a David?” The true question is, “Am I willing to submit to God’s true authority and live my life in humility?”
As Christians we must examine our own heart issues and bring them to the cross of Jesus Christ. We must seek God’s will in every situation and flee from division and rebellion at all costs. Which means we set our will to God’s and can lose everything for His purposes in our lives. Whatever the cost asked of us, just so that is ultimately pleases Him.
A Tale of Three Kings is a story about brokenness, an example for any man or woman who would dare lead God’s people.
Joe Ehrmann, a former NFL football star and volunteer coach for the Gilman high school football team in Baltimore, teaches his players the keys to successful defense: penetrate, pursue, punish, love. Love? A former captain of the Baltimore Colts and now a pastor, Ehrmann is serious about the game of football but even more serious about the purpose of life. Season of Life is his inspirational story as told by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jeffrey Marx, who was a ballboy for the Colts when he first met Ehrmann.
Ehrmann now devotes his life to teaching young men a whole new meaning of masculinity. He teaches the boys at Gilman the precepts of his Building Men for Others program: Being a man means emphasizing relationships and having a cause bigger than yourself. It means accepting responsibility and leading courageously. It means that empathy, integrity, and living a life of service to others are more important than points on a scoreboard.
Decades after he first met Ehrmann, Jeffrey Marx renewed their friendship and watched his childhood hero putting his principles into action. While chronicling a season with the Gilman Greyhounds, Marx witnessed the most extraordinary sports program he’d ever seen, where players say “I love you” to each other and coaches profess their love for their players. Off the field Marx sat with Ehrmann and absorbed life lessons that led him to reexamine his own unresolved relationship with his father.
Season of Life is a book about what it means to be a man of substance and impact. It is a moving story that will resonate with athletes, coaches, parents — anyone struggling to make the right choices in life.
Training Camp follows the story of Martin Jones, an un-drafted rookie trying to make it to the bright lights and big money of the NFL. He’s spent his whole life proving to the critics that a small guy with a big heart can succeed against all odds. After spraining his ankle in the preseason, Martin thinks his dream is lost when he happens to meet a very special coach who shares eleven life-changing lessons that keep Martin’s dream alive-and might even make him the best of the best. Whether you play sports or the piano or work with numbers, a computer or a scalpel, these lessons apply to everyone who must climb the mountain before reaching its peak.
I am sitting in my office on a Saturday afternoon. I have been in a reading frenzy the last couple of days. Right now I am reading a book by Truett Cathy (founder of Chick-fil-a) called It’s Better to Build Boys than Mend Men. I am only about half way through it right now, but I am so fired up I couldn’t concentrate any more so I had to stop. I had to blog! This book is AWESOME! I am so stirred up! My next few blogs are going to be thoughts about this book. Mr. Cathy wrote this book as a call to all adults to step up and raise not only your children but any other children you can get your hands on. He echoes what I heard from Ron Luce say, “That as Christians we are not only responsible for our kids (so you better handle your business at home) but all kids. This is an incredible and huge challenge, but I am so stirred up by it. I started the book thinking only of my own two children, but God has already raised the bar and re-birthed a new desire to step up and influence the others that need it. God always has a way of raising the stakes; of bringing you out of your comfort zone. I dig that about God!
READ THIS BOOK! Catch the vision. . .
There is a huge difference between living a life of purpose and adventure, and living one of apathy and missed opportunity. Chasing Daylight illustrates eight characteristics of an adventurer’s heart. God crafts divine moments specific to each of us, priceless opportunities for us to actively engage in His plan. By developing the characteristics outlined in this book, we can move from mundane to miraculous living.
The road of life is often paved with hardships, tragedy, personal loss, and disappointment. Too often, we find ourselves trapped in one of these moments, desperately searching for a way out. In Turning Points, Dino Rizzo tells how God can use these moments to be turning points in our lives. If we’ll trust him, He’ll guide us through our challenges, and we’ll start to enjoy the incredible plan He has for us
THE DIP is a book about quitting: It challenges the old saying, “winners never quit and quitters never win”. What really sets superstars apart from everyone else is the ability to escape dead ends quickly, while staying focused and motivated when it really counts.
Winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt. They quit the things that will not lead them to their desired destination so they can focus on what really counts.
Losers, on the other hand, fall into the traps of wasted energy and lack of focus. They continue to pursue a dead end path.
The Barbarian Way is a call to escape “civilized” Christianity and become original, powerful, untamed Christians-just as Christ intended. Barbaric Christians see Jesus differently than civilized Christians. They see disciples differently, and they see Christ’s mission differently. Christ’s passion drove Him to the cross; the cross of Christ drives you to His passion. Take up the challenge of the “barbarian way,” and your life will never be the same.
What is the second mile? It’s the difference between living as a good person and enjoying life as a child of God. When you “do your best” for someone, you go the first mile. When God does His best through you, you experience the second mile. This can happen only when you let Christ in you take over and empower you to accomplish what is impossible by your natural abilities. While others see you on the first mile, they see Christ on the second. This miraculous Christian life will overwhelm you with more time, energy, and peace. You can’t help but freely give more away! Because God does not reward your duty, He blesses your relationship with His Son. It’s time to experience radical living. It’s time to enter into the second mile!
